by Limpho Nonkonyane
OKRA WATER : X

Okra water has rapidly become popular as the TikTok girlies drink it since they claim that it lubricates the vagina during sex.

When it comes to popular trends one is advised to always research the health benefits before consuming.

Okra water is a vegetable beverage that possesses softness and an abundance of vitamins, specifically vitamin C. Boasting much in terms of nutrients, it has the potential to improve one’s immune system while simultaneously lessening inflammation, says the information hub, Growing in the garden.

The information hub provides the benefits of drinking okra water:

  • Boosts immune system.
  • Prevents constipation.
  • Controls blood sugar levels.
  • Reduces cholesterol.

Although consuming okra water has it’s benefits the Healthline information hub notes that drinking it simply because okra water is a renewable and healthy source of hydration, can have negative effects on people with allergies or high levels of fructans – a carbohydrate that may cause digestive problems.

The above mentioned source provides a step-by-step guide on how to make okra water:

  1. Start by washing the okra pods and cutting off the stems.
  2. Then, slice the okra pods in half or coarsely chop them.
  3. Place the okra in a jar or a large bowl and cover it with water.
  4. Refrigerate and let it sit overnight or for at least 8 hours.
  5. The water will turn slimy, slightly thick, and have a neutral or somewhat earthy taste.
  6. Once the water has infused with okra and turned into a gel-like substance, strain the liquid through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
  7. Add lemon juice or honey to the water to add flavor.
  8. Store the okra water in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
