United States citizens are in a state of shock following the tragic killing of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.
Charlie, renowned for his public discourse on faith and religion, recently attended an event at Utah Valley University where he was invited to address a large crowd of students when an unknown gunman fired a shot from long range, hitting the 31-year-old father of two in the neck.
Charlie has been known to be an ally of the current US president, Donald Trump. Following the tragic occurrence, President Trump took to his X (formerly Twitter) page announcing that Charlie had died.
“Charlie was a patriot who devoted his life to the cause of open debate in the country he loves so much, the United States of America.”
“There has never been anyone who has been so respected by youth. He was also a man of deep faith. We take comfort in the knowledge that he is now at peace with God in heaven.”
The president further added that while the assassin’s intention may have been to silence him, Charlie’s voice now echoes louder than before.
He added, “My administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it,” Trump said.

Meanwhile, Reuters reports that local police have since released a statement confirming that two men have been detained and interrogated regarding their possible involvement, but they were later released due to a lack of evidence linking them to the crime.
“There are no current ties to the shooting with either of these individuals,” the statement said. “There is an ongoing investigation and manhunt for the shooter.”
