Prince Kaybee’s 365-Day Glow-Up: How One Meal a Day and Grit Remade South Africa’s Favourite DJ

by Zaghrah Anthony

When DJs Become Motivation

You know that moment when a familiar celebrity post unexpectedly becomes a dose of inspiration? That’s what happened when Prince Kaybee, our very own Afro-house maestro shared a photo this week that made jaws drop. Gone is the softly rounder figure; in its place is a leaner, sharper version of himself. This isn’t just transformation, it’s a year of discipline, visible in every set of cheekbones.

From 96kg to 88kg in Just Months

Let’s rewind: earlier this year, Kaybee revealed that, over a short two-month span, he dropped from 96kg to 88kg, crediting the results to one simple routine:

“Eat once a day, [and] work out like it’s your last day.”

Now, a few months on, he’s held steady at 88 kg, with just a few stubborn kilos left to reach his 84 kg milestone. And the plan? Once that goal hits, he says he’ll consider adding a second daily meal back into his routine.

Fasting, Fitness & Fans: The Lost Art of Self-Discipline

This isn’t a fad diet for Prince Kaybee. It’s intermittent fasting turned ritual. He’s swapped junk for vegetables, junked multiple meals for a sturdy, once-a-day fuel-up. In January, he boldly told followers:

“I eat only at 8 PM… fish, chicken, mince, rice, eggs… if you cheat, maybe on a Friday… still one meal, though.”

Fitness specialists caution that while effective, such a regimented approach may not be sustainable for everyone, but recognize its power when paired with consistent training.

Mzansi Reacts: Support, Self-Reflection, & a Dash of Thirst

South Africans didn’t just scroll past, Mzansi responded. Here’s a taste:

  • “You are really working hard,” wrote nthabisengmang6.

  • “Wait, what??? We’re almost the same weight. I need to lock back into the gym,” joked vrfd_dpt.

  • “Hard work pays off, my person,” cheered Lhalha89433337.

And then, of course, the thirst responses arrived, from fans and follow-pages alike:

  • “Ageing like fine wine,” mused MsGGoose.

  • “Hell yeah,” declared uncle_daddyy.

  • “I want to throw your parents a baby shower,” quipped Roshroshi91.

It’s part admiration, part motivation, and entirely Saffa.

Beyond the Scale: Cultural and Personal Relevance

Coming from rural Free State roots and rising to DJ royalty, think “Charlotte”, “Club Controller”, “Banomoya” with platinum plaques and constant airplay, Prince Kaybee knows the grind. But here’s the thing: in a society navigating new health consciousness, his journey speaks to many of us who juggle work, family, and health.

The man who once had us dancing under Cape Town skies has now become a figure of disciplined transformation—proof that even amid chaos, personal change is possible.

Fresh Lens: A Story of Balance, Not Extremes

Let’s not frame this as dramatic loss or extreme dieting. Instead, here’s what stands out:

  • Mind over meal: A once-per-day rhythm that trains your mind more than your fork.

  • Visible ethos: Kaybee doesn’t preach wellness, he demonstrates it in candlelit DMs and gym echoes.

  • Authentic evolution: He’s not chasing diet trends; he’s evolving how he thinks about food, energy, and age.

In other words, this isn’t just weight-loss, it’s a quietly powerful reshaping, in habits and in confidence.
