Insufficient healthy red blood cells or haemoglobin to transport oxygen to the body’s tissues is known as anaemia. Red blood cells include a protein called haemoglobin, which transports oxygen from the lungs to the body’s other organs. Anaemia can result in fatigue, weakness, and breathlessness.

According to Mayo Clinic anaemia comes in a variety of types. Each has a unique cause. Long-term or temporary anaemia is possible. From mild to severe, it can exist. Anaemia may be an indicator of a serious illness.

The health publication also notes that anaemia symptoms depend on the cause and how bad the anaemia is. Anaemia can be so faint that it first presents with no symptoms. But when the anaemia worsens, symptoms typically start to appear and worsen.

Symptoms of anaemia may be concealed by another illnesses if it is the source of the condition. The anaemia may then be detected through a test for a different illness. It is possible to identify the cause of some anemias by their symptoms.

Possible symptoms of anaemia according to Mayo clinic include:

  • Tiredness
  • Weakness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Pale or yellowish skin, which might be more obvious on white skin than on Black or brown skin
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Chest pain
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Headaches

If you’re exhausted or having trouble breathing but don’t know why, schedule a visit with your doctor.

Haemoglobin deficiency is the primary indicator of anaemia. Haemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells that carries oxygen. Anaemia treatments may include taking vitamins or undergoing medical procedures. Some types of anaemia might be avoided by following a healthy diet.
