Is not being posted on social media a red flag in a relationship?

by Ncumisa Lerato Kunana

Relationship rules can vary, especially when it comes to the internet. You may run into many gray areas because of this. What are the red flags on social media? Red flags call for a hard stop and serious conversation before moving forward in a relationship.

Certain behaviors stand out and should raise concern. If you notice the following relationship red flags, stop and assess the situation with your partner.

With many couples publicizing their relationships on social media, one might feel the pressure and feel as though it is a prerequisite of an official relationship. However, there is a big difference between a private relationship and a secret one where your partner appears to be single. That is when you should be concerned.

According to Arkansas Relationship Center, in your relationship, you should never feel hidden. People who have good intentions do not hide their partners.

To hide something means to keep it hidden from others. This usually means that someone will be upset and that there will be an affair. It could also indicate that someone important in their life is opposed to them dating you. While this is not the same as cheating, it is still a problem. A person should fight for the relationship they want.

Another possibility is that your partner is ashamed of dating you. Because they openly reject you, this raises more concerns than cheating.

It also important to remember that relationships differ and what might work for another couple might not work for you. Sit down with your partner and discuss how much or how little of your relationship you want publicized. This helps manage everyone’s expectations and create less tension in your relationship
