Dealing with being pregnant as a single woman

by Ayanda Sithole

Being pregnant can be a beautiful and exciting experience to share with someone, however, this may not be the case for women who are single. If you find yourself in this situation, here are tips to help you cope:

SEE ALSO: Shag buddy. Yay or nay?

1. Get advice. Share your fears and get advice from women who are or have been pregnant alone, this will make you feel better.

2. Look after your health. Get medical care for yourself and your unborn baby. Make sure sure you’re both healthy so you can both be happy.

3. Partner with a friend. When attending childbirth classes, take a good friend with you for support. You may want your friend in the hospital room with you when you go into labour.

SEE ALSO: Is your relationship financially solid?

4. Build a support system. Some men run away because they are terrified of the thought of being a father, as it comes with responsibilities and sacrifices. If the father of your baby has left, find a support system from those who love you. If there’s no one around, ask a therapist or gynaecologist to refer you to a support group.
