The increase of Prime has caused a huge stir among Mzansi leaving many peeps angered by the prince range. However fear not as Checkers has come to the rescue, the retail brand has announced that it will be selling the sports drinks for 10% of the price.

PRIME is a range of sports drinks, drink mixes, and energy drinks created and marketed by Prime Hydration which was founded by YouTubers Logan Paul and rapper Olajide Olayinka Williams.

The sports drink grew popularity in South Africa this past month as many young people hunted for any and all bottles they could get their hands on. Supply was severely constrained, and prices were pushed up as high as R400 or R500, leading to even more buzz.

Parents have baulked at the pricing, and many commentators have labelled the drink overpriced and overhyped. However, Checkers announced it would sell bottles of the drink for R39.99 instead as of Monday, 1 May 2023, Prime will be sold at selected Checkers and Checkers Hyper stores.

According to Sunday Times, here is a list of stores where the drink will be available for purchase and individuals are limited to eight per customer, two per flavour, the publication reported.

  • Checkers Canal Walk, Century City, Cape Town — Western Cape (9am)
  • Checkers Hyper Sandton City, Sandton, Johannesburg — Gauteng (9am)
  • Checkers Castle Gate, Pretoria — Gauteng (8am)
  • Checkers Rosebank — Gauteng (8am)
  • Checkers Hyper Menlyn, Pretoria — Gauteng (9am)
  • Checkers Oceans Mall, Umhlanga — KwaZulu-Natal (8am)
