The South African Football Association (SAFA) is expected to unveil the new head coach of Bafana Bafana on Saturday, 8 August 2026, marking the beginning of a new era for the senior men’s national football team. This follows the departure of Belgian coach Hugo Broos.

New Bafana Bafana coach to take the reins
The South African team have been without a coach since Hugo Broos’ five-year reign came to an end last Friday, 31 July 2026. Broos helped guide the boys to a historic World Cup knockout-stage run.
South African football fans are expecting nothing less than the incoming coach winning the 2027 AFCON.
This new appointment follows an extensive recruitment process in which SAFA’s technical committee evaluated several candidates before recommending a preferred candidate to the association’s National Executive Committee for final approval.
According to IOL, Lydia Monyepao, SAFA’s CEO, handed over the files to Governance Committee members at SAFA House in the presence of members of the media. Members include Victor Mogajane (chairman), Tumi Dlamini, Abel Ramolotja, Shakespeare Hadebe, and Anzel Laubscher.

“The Governance Committee, which is an independent body, will be tasked with dealing with any issues around the candidates and checking whether they meet the criteria for nomination in terms of the Safa statutes. The documents submitted at the press conference held at SAFA House on Wednesday relate to candidates nominated for various positions.”
Saturday’s announcement is expected to provide greater clarity on SAFA’s long-term vision for the national team, including the objectives set for the new technical leadership as South Africa looks to build on the progress achieved under Broos.
Football supporters across the country will be eagerly awaiting the official unveiling and the first public comments from the new Bafana Bafana head coach.
