Orlando Pirates dominate Durban City in convincing Betway Premiership win

Orlando Pirates returned to Betway Premiership action with a convincing 2-0 victory over Durban City at the Orlando Amstel Arena last night, 17 September 2026.

The Buccaneers had to wait until the second half to make their dominance count, with Lebone Seema and Tshepang Moremi finding the back of the net to secure all three points.

Durban City started strong and created opportunities during the opening 45 minutes. Sipho Chaine, who made his 150th appearance for the club, produced important saves to keep his side level, including an early one-on-one stop against Tylo Sanger. 

Durban City’s Jean Lwamba also came close before halftime but was denied by Chaine. 

A strong second half

Pirates returned from the break with greater attacking intent and eventually broke the deadlock in the 57th minute. Lebone Seema rose highest inside the box to power a header past Durban City goalkeeper Fredrick Asare following a well-delivered set piece. 

The Soweto side doubled its advantage 11 minutes later, when Simphiwe Masilela created space before finding Tshepang Moremi, who finished from the edge of the area to make it 2-0.  

This was Moremi’s third league goal of the season, according to match reporting. 

Pirates controlled the remainder of the match and held on for a clean sheet and their fourth consecutive league victory. The result also extended their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.

With this victory, Pirates move to 16 points from six matches, four points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played eight games. Pirates therefore still have two matches in hand over the defending champions. 

For Durban City, the defeat left them with six points from six league matches.  

Pirates will next turn their attention to their upcoming league fixture against Marumo Gallants on Sunday, 202 September 2026, while Durban City are scheduled to face Milford FC.
