England’s dream of lifting the FIFA World Cup has come to a painful end after a narrow 2-1 defeat to Argentina in the semi-finals. Despite a determined performance, the Three Lions were unable to book their place in the final, with star player Harry Kane sharing his thoughts on the loss.
The match was fiercely contested from the opening whistle, with both teams creating chances and displaying high-quality football.

Argentina struck first, taking advantage of a defensive lapse before England responded with a well-worked equaliser that reignited hopes of reaching the final.
As the game entered its closing stages, Argentina found the decisive goal, putting England under immense pressure. Gareth Southgate’s side pushed forward in search of another equaliser, but Argentina’s disciplined defence held firm to secure victory.

Harry Kane speaks on England’s loss
Harry Kane, who scored six goals during the tournament, said Thomas Tuchel’s men had struggled to repel constant attacks from the defending champions.
“After the goal, whether it was them putting more men forward or us not being able to match them man for man, it was just wave after wave,” he said. “Lads were putting blocks in, in the end, it just wasn’t enough.” He also said England had not planned to rely on defending after Gordon’s goal.
The England team have now reached at least the semifinal stage in four of the past five major tournaments, but have still not won a major tournament since the 1966 FIFA World Cup.
England will now turn their attention to the third-place playoff, aiming to finish the tournament on a positive note. Meanwhile, Argentina advances to the World Cup final with hopes of claiming football’s greatest prize.
