The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has confirmed that severe weather conditions are wreaking havoc on flight schedules at both Cape Town International and George Airports.

Although both airports remain “open and operational,” the conditions have forced a wave of delays, diversions, and cancellations. SAWS and ACSA are both monitoring the situation as nearby airports scramble to accommodate aircraft unable to land in the storm-battered regions of the Western Cape.
A user shared on TikTok the moment the captain decided to divert the plane to Gqeberha due to the stormy Cape weather.

The severe weather has forced cockpit crews to contend with heavy winds and rain while working to land passengers safely. Although the conditions have improved slightly today, most landings are still not approved. Passengers are advised that flights may be delayed, diverted, or cancelled as a result.

ACSA stated in a statement yesterday, “Despite the inclement weather, both Cape Town International Airport and George remain open and operational, and to manage the uncertainty, travellers are urged to utilise the ACSA Mobile App or contact their airlines directly to track their specific flight status.”
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) expects the volatile conditions to persist throughout today.
