Remember the whole Minnie Dlamini-Mac G & Sol Phenduka saga from earlier this year?

Well, there is an update, and it involves the media personality suing the controversial duo for a whopping R2.5 million. This is for hate speech, harassment and more.

A few months ago, MacGyver Mukwevho, better known as Mac G, along with his partner in crime, Sol Phenduka made headlines.

They trended across various social media platforms when they made some questionable comments regarding Minnie Dlamini’s love life and genitalia during an episode of their infamous Podcast and Chill. Clips of them implying that the popular media personality’s ‘inability’ to keep a man could be due to her having unpleasant body odour quickly spread and garnered immense backlash, as many, including Women For Change rallied behind Minnie.

After remaining quiet and letting the situation play out for some time, and shortly after Mac G issued a public apology, the Love Never Lies presenter took to her social media to issue a statement where she revealed that she would not be taking the matter lying down. Rather, she would be seeking legal counsel regarding how to proceed next.

Recently, Sunday World reported that Minnie has filed a R2.5 million lawsuit against the controversial duo in the Equality Court, and accuses them of a range of charges, including harrassment, gender-based discrimination and hate speech. The aforementioned publication also revealed that the media personality demanded for R1 million to be paid to her, while 1.5million is to be paid to Women for Change.

“To have my genitals made to be a topic of national discussion is already extremely demeaning to me and to women generally. But the joke that I might have poor genital hygiene is utterly humiliating and degrading,” she said.

“Mr Mukwevho takes no accountability for the devastating effects of his words on me and on society. He does not even acknowledge that it was objectively offensive – only that some people ‘might have been offended’, as though there should not be universal revulsion at his remarks.”
