Why stay-at-home moms deserve a good rest too

by Akhona Ndlela

A stay-at-home mom sounds like she spends her days watching cartoons with the kids, drinking coffee, and relaxing in her pyjamas when she is referred to as a “stay-at-home mom.”

However, this is not the case. I’ve seen this first-hand.

She’s running a household, caring for small humans, cleaning up messes before they happen, and balancing the family’s emotional ups and downs. This level of multitasking is unmatched by any office job.

According to Calm, among the many stressors that stay-at-home mothers deal with are never-ending to-do lists, invisible work, emotional labour, loneliness, perfectionism, losing parts of who they are, and pressure to be “grateful.” Despite frequently feeling alone and surrounded by children, they teach their kids how to deal with life while controlling their own emotions. Perfectionism can seem overwhelming when using social media, and it can be hard to remember who you are outside of “mom.”

Take into account the following advice to help a busy mom:

Moments A Day suggests preparing a meal for the entire family or making her a snack. Give her some alone time at home and plan a family outing. She can catch up on housework and unwind with this. Offer to watch the children at home so she can spend a few hours alone. This aids in mental clarity and emotional recharge.

Do some housework without anticipating praise. She can get ready for upcoming tasks and learn where everything goes with this. Assist her with dinner preparation or other household chores by playing with the children, the above source further adds.
