Gospel icon Solly Moholo has died

by Samantha Mochele

South African beloved gospel musician Solly Moholo, born Solomon Molokoane, has sadly passed away while in hospital.

The devastating news was shared through a statement on his official Facebook page, signed by his family, the Molokoane family and his management team.

The family confirmed that Solly passed away while hospitalised following a brief but serious illness. He fell ill while on his pre-album launch tour in Botswana in August, where he promoted his upcoming album Wubani O zo Pepeza.

Despite being in intensive care for weeks, he unfortunately succumbed to his illness. “It is with great sadness that we are informing you on behalf of the Molokoane family, that is Solly Moholo’s family, that our beloved legend “Solly Moholo” has sadly passed on. He passed on 2nd October 2024 whilst in hospital. Solly Moholo was hospitalised after falling in following his pre-album launch tour in Botswana.”

The statement also paid tribute to Solly’s legacy, acknowledging how deeply his music had touched the lives of many. “He will be sorely missed. May his laughter continue to echo the walls of heaven. Let us remember him fondly for the healing music he gave us over the years,” the statement read.

This is after Solly’s management released a statement revealing that he required a brain operation. Solly’s management had also requested donations from the public to help cover the musician’s growing medical expenses as reported by SundayWorld.

The family also shared that details regarding his memorial and funeral services will be made available in the coming days.
