Lekompo musician Lehlogonolo ‘Shebe Maburna’ Chauke’s latest bid for bail has been cancelled, with the musician now expected back in court on Thursday, 10 September 2026.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Limpopo confirmed earlier today that Chauke’s third bail application based on new facts was cancelled after he appointed new legal counsel.

According to SABC News, the new legal team requested additional time to familiarise itself with the matter before proceeding with the bail application.

New legal team takes over

Chauke was previously represented by Advocate Michael Khumalo and Senior Counsel Laurence Hodes during his recent bail proceedings and appeal.

His new legal representatives now need time to study the case before the latest bail application can continue. The development means that the anticipated bail proceedings did not take place as initially expected.

The NPA confirmed that the matter had been removed from Wednesday’s court roll for the bail application.

The artist remains in custody after previous attempts to secure his release on bail were unsuccessful.

His second bail application based on new facts was dismissed by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court last month. Chauke subsequently approached the Polokwane High Court, but his appeal was also dismissed.

In its August ruling, Judge Karin Pillay found that Chauke had failed to establish the exceptional circumstances required for bail on new facts. The court also considered the seriousness of the charges and circumstances surrounding the alleged offences.

Facing multiple charges

Chauke is facing 21 charges, including four counts of attempted murder, as well as charges relating to theft and malicious property damage, according to the latest NPA information reported by SABC News.

The charges stem from several incidents, including an alleged shooting involving a fan in Ladanna, Polokwane, in October 2025. Chauke’s case has undergone several developments since his arrest in November 2025.

What happens next?

Chauke is expected to return to court tomorrow, Thursday, 10 September 2026, for the pre-trial proceedings. SABC News reports the immediate focus will be on the progress of the case and the additional charges contained in the amended indictment, while his new legal representatives continue familiarising themselves with the matter.

In the meantime, Chauke remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
