Pirates dominate PSL Awards with multiple accolades

Orlando Pirates emerged as the biggest winners at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards, enjoying a memorable evening after collecting several of the night’s most prestigious accolades. 

The Buccaneers were rewarded for an outstanding season, with players and members of the technical team receiving recognition for their exceptional performances throughout the campaign.  

The club’s dominance at the awards reflected its consistency, attacking football, and strong showing across domestic competitions.

Some of the award highlights

Relebohile Mofokeng, who now plies his trade in Belgium, claimed the biggest of them all, the PSL Footballer of the Season award, an award voted for by the Premier Division’s head coaches.  

His fellow professionals across the league handed him the Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season award. He then collected Young Player of the Season on top of both – for a record third consecutive time. 

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou was named Betway Premiership Coach of the Season, in recognition of a debut campaign in Soweto that ended with three trophies in the cabinet.

The individual positional awards followed the same pattern. Sipho Chaine took Goalkeeper of the Season. Lebone Seema was named Defender of the Season. Oswin Appollis, in his first season in black and white, walked away with Midfielder of the Season. 

These awards also highlight the depth of talent within the Orlando Pirates squad, with players earning praise for their goalscoring exploits, creativity, defensive solidity, and overall influence on the pitch.  

The recognition capped off a season in which the Soweto giants continued to establish themselves as one of the country’s leading football clubs. 

Club officials welcomed the awards as a testament to the hard work and dedication shown by the players, coaching staff, and support personnel throughout the season.
