Falafel pita


Enjoy a delicious Middle Eastern delicacy with this easy to make falafel pita recipe by Ntwenhle Gcabashe

Prep time: 60 minutes

Cooking time: 3 minutes

Serves: 4

  • 3 cups chickpeas, soaked
  • 1 tablespoon ground cardamom
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • Handful fresh coriander
  • 2 tablespoons cake flour
  • 3 shallot onions
  • Salt and pepper
  • Oil for frying
  • Pita bread for serving
  • Salad leaves for serving
  • Hummus, for serving

  1. Blend chickpeas, cardamom, cumin, garlic, coriander, flour, onions and pepper until smooth. Leave the mixture for 60 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a frying pan. Make small balls from the mixture, and fry for 2–3 minutes or until golden.
  3. Cut the pita bread to form pocket. Fill with falafel, salad leaves and hummus.
  4. Serve immediately.
