Winter camping spots with epic views

by Akhona Ndlela

With its cooler temperatures and breathtaking scenery, winter is an underappreciated time of year to camp in South Africa.

It offers clearer night skies for stargazing, as well as more tranquil campsites since fewer people are camping.

And let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to take in the serene beauty of nature without the heat and crowds of summer?

Our country has a variety of winter camping locations with stunning views, ranging from mountainous wilderness to coastal shores.

Hikes and wildlife viewing, particularly whale watching along the coast, are enhanced by the crisp air.

Every location offers distinctive sights, comfortable campsites, and life-changing winter experiences.

Prepare for unforgettable evenings beneath expansive, starry winter skies by packing warm clothing and making advance plans.

These are the top winter camping locations to check out this season.

Yzerfontein, West Coast

With breathtaking views of the Atlantic and breathtaking sunsets, Yzerfontein provides camping by the sea.

Simple campgrounds in the area offer access to the outdoors and nighttime stargazing.
