Why forgiveness could be the key to stronger relationships

by Akhona Ndlela

Everybody gets hurt. Sometimes it’s a careless remark. At other times, it is a betrayal on another level, which hurts even worse.

But in every intimate relationship, whether it be friendship, family, or romantic, there comes a time when we must decide whether to let go of the hurt or to hold onto it.

It is never an easy task to forgive someone, It takes so much from each person to accept the words “I’m sorry.” It does not imply as if nothing happened between the two of you.

Forgiveness has a lot of power and could be the thing that keeps meaningful relationships together. Here’s why:

Psychology Today claims one of the most effective tools for moving on from painful relationships is forgiveness. It is more about what you have allowed to happen to you than what the other person has done to you. You can change the direction of your life and well-being by forgiving yourself, which will replace hurt and resentment. It helps you focus on strengthening yourself, developing integrity, and developing character by severing the negative ties that bind you to other people.

Additionally, the above website forgiveness releases you, enabling you to regain control and make progress towards bettering your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. By extending forgiveness, you can recall the good things that were and might still be there in the circumstance.

Through lowering stress, boosting self-esteem, and encouraging better sleep, forgiveness has positive health effects. Additionally, it facilitates the release of unhealthy anger, which can lead to heart issues, stress, tense muscles, and weakened immunity, the health-focused publication Healthline adds.
