Living in the same home as your parents could easily be one of the most comfortable things you can do as a young adult.
There are so many advantages that comes with it such as being in an environment you are familiar with, it is your place of comfort, many of your closest friends live close by, you save on renting costs, and there are certain privileges you get to enjoy like getting your laundry done.
While many of these perks provide you with more than enough reason to want to stay, there comes a time where leaving the family nest should be an essential part of your new year’s resolution.
Literary editor and life coach Carl Maswoswa reveals that studies proved that 52% of young adults between the ages of 18- to 29-year-old still live with their parents.
In his article he added: “Moving out should not be out of peer and societal pressure but emanate from you as an adult that you are now flexible and independent to handle your own life without nagging your parents.”
While many are unsure of when it’s time to move out on their own, we have a list of signs that to help you.
When your presence brings no excitement
According to lifestyle publication – 21 Mag – the lack of excitement when you enter your childhood home should be a clear indication that it’s time to move out. This is because your parents may be so accustomed to having you around that everything appears to be predictable. They become familiar with your routine, which makes building conversations rather pointless since they know so much about you already.
You still do the dishes
It appears to be common knowledge that doing dishes is considered a child’s chore in a home. According to the above-mentioned publication, if you find yourself still doing dishes in your childhood home, it’s a sign that you are still looked upon as a child and should definitely be taking steps to find a place of your own.
You have a stable job
In order to take care of yourself you need to be financially independent. This is why having a permanent job is your best bet in building a solid future for yourself when moving out.
Renovation company, Mover Junction adds: “You might not afford a home as nice as the one your parents have. But everyone starts somewhere.”
When you have too much furniture in a small space
The older you get the more furniture you accumulate. Having all of your belongings in the confinement of your childhood bedroom can often be a challenging task.
This is a sign for you to get a bigger place that suits your new lifestyle.
You are 30-years-old
According to Mover Junction, people in their 20s have enough reason to delay the process of moving out of their parent’s home. The reasons may be because they are still finding their feet, still studying or might simply not be financially independent yet.
However, by the time you hit thirty, most of these challenges should have been resolved. This should be a sign for you to explore your options and find a new nest.
