When is it the right time to move out of home?

by Ncumisa Lerato Kunana

You may have had passing thoughts of moving out on your own or with roommates recently. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to be self-sufficient. If you are a young adult who is presently living at home, this can be a fantastic opportunity.

It’s a terrific way to save money while spending time with your family if your parents cook and clean for you and you don’t have to pay rent.

But, depending on your individual home circumstances and where you are in life, such scenario is not always achievable.

Here are a few points that might help you make a decision:

You’re financially stable

If you’re financially secure, now might be a good time to start living a more independent life.

You’re a fantastic candidate if you don’t need to rely on anyone else to pay your bills and you’re not living paycheck to paycheck with the continual worry that you won’t be able to make ends meet!

Your Commute Is Too Long

We spend so much of our waking hours at work that commuting on top of that can suck up a lot of what little free time we have.

Because commuting can consume a significant portion of your workday, limiting the amount of time you spend on the road as much as possible should be a top focus.

You Have A Toxic Relationship With Your Parents

If you have a toxic relationship with your parents where you feel trapped and unhappy, it might be time to think about cutting ties and moving out on your own.

You Don’t Have Any Privacy

Sometimes you just want to keep certain aspects of your life from your parents and siblings. Nothing is truly private if you are still living at home. If you don’t have a lock on your door, your room and things are obviously laid out for anyone to come by and look around.

If you frequently invite people around, your family will most likely be well-versed in your social and romantic life.
