Turn your space into a budget-friendly fitness zone

by Akhona Ndlela

No membership to a gym? Not a problem. The truth is that all you need to get started is a little imagination, perseverance, and a space that works for you—no expensive equipment or monthly fees.

It’s not as hard (or expensive) as you might think to turn a dusty spare room or a small flat into a functional fitness area.

The trick? Build around your preferred style of movement, starting small. Your setup just needs to make movement easy and welcoming; it doesn’t have to look like the ideal home gym inspo taken from Pinterest(as ideal as it might be).

Here’s how to get started:

Express Fitness Urban claims that budgeting and prioritising needs that are in line with your fitness goals are key components of smart shopping. Make sure the equipment has a return policy and warranty. Your fitness experience may be hampered by cramping, so pick equipment that fits comfortably in your training area. Keep in mind to cheerfully invest in your well-being.

According to The Gates, “When you DIY your own home gym, you don’t need state-of-the-art equipment, as leveraging space and creativity can yield fantastic results. For starters, look around your house for items that can double as workout tools. A sturdy chair, for example, can be used for tricep dips and step-ups. Gallon jugs filled with water or sand can substitute for dumbbells, offering resistance for curls and shoulder presses.”

The above-mentioned website further explains that you should think about purchasing a few reasonably priced necessities as well. Resistance bands can be used for a wide range of exercises that target different muscle groups because of their extreme versatility. Another inexpensive tool that can give you a great cardio workout is a jump rope.

Yoga mats can make floor exercises more comfortable if you have the space. Make sure to personalise your home gym to keep your workouts interesting. Establish a specific space for working out, even if it’s just a room corner. By allowing you to check your form, a mirror can help you avoid injuries and ensure that your workouts are productive, as the above source also highlights.
