In a world where every drop counts, being water-wise is more than a trendy phrase—it’s a way to contribute to a healthier planet and a healthier you. Beyond saving money, using water smartly can transform your daily routine, making you more mindful of resources and more creative with conservation.

Being mindful of your water usage is all about simple, effective habits that add up to big change. So, grab a glass of H2O and explore easy tips to keep your water footprint light, fresh, and sustainable.

To reduce water consumption, Friends of the Earth suggest that you turn off taps while brushing your teeth and take quick showers. It is further advised to switch to an efficient shower head for shorter showers and use a timer on your phone for shorter showers. “Save up your dirty clothes Washing a full machine load of clothes uses less water and energy than 2 half-loads . This means lower bills as well as saving water.”

Cleanipedia further advises that you check for leaks and drips, such as dripping taps and leaky toilets. It is mentioned that you detect slow leaks by adding food colouring to the toilet cistern and not flushing for an hour and if a leak is found, contact your water company for free repair.

“A standard dishwasher uses around 9.5 litres of water per wash, while hand washing generally uses up to 60 litres. So using a dishwasher should save you a lot of water. But it’s really important to use it the right way. For example, never pre-rinse your dishes. It’s just not necessary these days. And always wait till your dishwasher is full.”

Keep your pool or spa covered to prevent evaporation of water and chemicals. and protect your garden with chunky mulch to reduce evaporation loss, improve soil, and enhance the appearance, states the Water Corporation publication.
