Be it fuzzy or glossy-skinned, there is more to peaches than just being a deliciously juicy fruit. It also has numerous health benefits that many might not be aware of.

Below are the amazing health benefits of peaches, as explained by WebMD.

Promotes healing

A medium-sized peach holds about 11% of vitamin C the body needs each day. This nutrient helps to heal the body’s wounds and keeps your immune system strong. It also aids in getting rid of ‘free radicals’ – chemicals linked to cancer.

Provides vitamin E

This antioxidant is essential for many of the cells in your body. It also keeps the immune system healthy and assists in widening the blood vessels to keep blood from clotting inside.

Helps with gut issues

As a snack, have some canned peaches if you are experiencing tummy troubles. Peaches have a soft texture, are lower in fibre than fresh fruit and are easy to digest. Canned peaches can also help soothe an upset stomach and ease diarrhoea and gas.

Contains potassium

People need about 4700 milligrams of potassium per day, and peaches contain potassium – a small peach has 247 milligrams and a medium peach has about 285 milligrams of potassium.

This essential mineral can help balance out the effects of a diet high in salt. It can also lower your blood pressure, your chances of getting kidney stones and bone loss.

Helps keep you at a healthy weight

With just under 60 calories, peaches have no cholesterol, saturated fats or sodium. An added benefit is that more than 85% of a peach is water. Peaches are also higher in fibre. Therefore, when you eat them, it takes you longer to feel hungry again.

Good for eyesight

The antioxidant beta-carotene gives peaches their golden-orange colour. When consumed, the body turns them into vitamin A which is key for healthy vision.
