Ratatouille found in free-range chicken at Woolies

South Africans were left in utter shock after a video of a live rat was seen scurrying inside a pack of  Woolworths’s free range frozen chicken. This video has been doing the rounds – and it’s utterly disgusting!

The video which was posted by TikTok user who goes by the name of Tebo Shale and has since received over 1.8 million views and thousands of comments and likes with people dragging Woolies for filth and some even went as far as to threaten the retail store by boycotting it. 

According to the social media user, the incident allegedly occurred at the Woolworths Gardens Shopping Centre in Cape Town. While taking to her TikTok to expose Woolworth for filth the social media user captured the post saying: 

“Guys, mara, why?” the TikTok user wrote.

After the post went viral all over social media Woolworths responded to the post by saying:

“We have launched an in-depth investigation into the incident; senior management have visited the site to assess the situation and an independent auditor will verify our findings. In the immediate term, the store is undergoing a forensic deep clean.

“Our values underpin our commitment to the well-being of our customers and people. Your trust in Woolies is supremely important and we are taking every measure to ensure this never happens again.”

Woolies is deeply committed to the highest standards of hygiene and food safety. Each store undergoes routine inspections and audits on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis covering aspects relating to food safety, our cold chain, cleaning, pest control and due diligence. (3)
