Kid-approved smoothies: Nutritious blends they’ll actually love

Getting kids to eat their fruits and veggies can feel like negotiating a peace treaty—one wrong move, and it’s a meltdown city. But what if there was a way to sneak in all that goodness without the complaints? Enter kid-approved smoothies: colourful, delicious, and packed with nutrients, all disguised as a fun treat.

With the right mix of flavours, even the pickiest eaters won’t suspect they’re sipping on something healthy. It’s a win-win—happy kids, happy parents, and not a single veggie tantrum in sight. The Healthy Family Project suggests a smoothie it believes is perfect for kids, featuring strawberries, ice, watermelon, vanilla Greek yoghurt, coconut milk, and ground flax seed. It’s said to be easy to make and delicious, making it a kid’s favourite.

Other kid-friendly options according to the source above include spinach, vanilla-flavoured protein powder, and fat-free whipped cream. The publication mentions that adding bananas and blueberries can change the colour, while vanilla protein powder boosts muscle growth.

To make smoothies for kids, avoid overpacking them with extras, as it can taste like sludge, states Yummy Toddler Food.  The publication advises that you balance ingredients and choose fruits and veggies to customise the smoothie.

It is stated that for non-dairy milk, add fruit, vegetables, and frozen banana. “Blend the smoothie really well to ensure that it has a very creamy texture. Serve it in a reusable pouch, a small open cup, or in a sippy cup depending on what your kid likes best.”

The above source also mentions that you adjust smoothies for toddlers with food allergies by using avocado or nut butter if they are allergic to bananas. It is then advised that you choose milk from almond, flax, coconut, rice, dairy, or kefir.
