Breast Intentions and local radio station team up to raise funds for life-saving mammograms

The Breast Intentions Colour Run returns to Johannesburg on Saturday, 17 October 2026, with a mission to help women in under-resourced communities access life-saving breast cancer screening.

Taking place at Thaba Eco Trails, the annual event will bring together participants for a family-friendly 5km walk and run to raise funds for 100 mammograms through the ‘Give Hope. Fund a Scan’ campaign.

Beyond the colourful festivities, the initiative aims to highlight the importance of early detection and improve access to breast health services for women who may otherwise struggle to afford screening.

Colour Run supports access to mammograms

Breast Intentions is committed to raising funds for mammograms for women in under-resourced communities, where access to screening services can be limited.

The organisation hopes proceeds from the event will help fund 100 scans, giving more women an opportunity to detect potential breast health concerns early.

Early detection plays an important role in the management of breast cancer, making access to screening and timely medical care essential.

Every ticket sold will contribute towards the fundraising campaign, allowing participants to support the cause while taking part in a community event.

What to expect at the event

The Breast Intentions Colour Run will feature a scenic 5km route, colour powder stations, food and drink stalls, and DJ entertainment.

Designed for families and people of different fitness levels, the event offers an opportunity to walk, run or simply enjoy the activities while supporting a meaningful cause.

The event will also feature a live broadcast from 5FM’s 5 Weekend Breakfast, with Mike V, Palesa Lemeke and Aaron Masemola bringing the day’s atmosphere to listeners.

Supporting women’s health beyond awareness

Masi Mdingane, business manager for 5FM and Good Hope FM, said supporting Breast Intentions was about creating a practical impact on women’s well-being.

“Supporting Breast Intentions is about more than awareness. It is about making a practical, meaningful and potentially life-saving difference for women who need it most,” Masi said.

The partnership forms part of the event’s broader effort to encourage people to take an active role in supporting breast health awareness and improving access to screening.

By linking fundraising with a community-focused activity, the organisers hope to encourage more people to contribute to the campaign and help women access mammograms.
