Shadrack Sibiya steps down from senior SAPS role

Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya has resigned from the South African Police Service (SAPS), with his departure taking effect on Monday, 12 October 2026.

SAPS has confirmed that Shadrack is no longer an employee of the Service after he resigned through his legal representative following the commencement of disciplinary proceedings against him.

The development was confirmed by the police service as scrutiny surrounding the former deputy national police commissioner continues.

SAPS confirms Shadrack’s resignation

In a statement, SAPS confirmed that Sibiya had resigned through his legal representative after disciplinary proceedings against him began.

Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane said Shadrack’s departure would be regarded as an honourable discharge.

His resignation brings his employment with the police service to an end, following disciplinary action related to allegations that have attracted attention amid proceedings before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Shadrack Sibiya faces sexual offences allegations

Shadrack’s resignation comes as he faces allegations relating to sexual offences, which have also drawn public attention.

The allegations and the disciplinary proceedings are separate matters, and any criminal allegations must be dealt with through the appropriate legal processes.

His departure from SAPS does not, in itself, determine the outcome of any criminal proceedings or establish guilt.

What happens next?

Shadrack’s resignation marks a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the former senior police official.

While SAPS has confirmed that he is no longer employed by the Service, further developments concerning the allegations against him will depend on the relevant legal processes.

The resignation brings his time in the police service to an end, but questions surrounding the allegations remain subject to further proceedings.
