The time we’ve all been silently dreading is finally here; it’s time to snap out of holiday mode and lock in for the return to ‘normal’ life, which means back to school and work.

Being able to seamlessly transition from unplugging and being in full-on relaxed mode to preparing to take on the upcoming school year is not easy to achieve for anyone, but it is even more difficult for the little ones, as it is a bit more difficult for them to understand the changes happening with and around them. As a parent or guardian, it is your responsibility to ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible.

As an adult, it might not seem like there are a lot of changes happening during this period because it has pretty much become second nature to switch in and out being in the zone and relaxing. The work to ensure that your family is ready to return to school starts a bit early, as routine is one of the most important aspects of making sure this works. Business Insider encourages establishing a routine for you and your family, as it will help come time to go back to school.

The source also highlights the need to affirm the wave of different feelings and emotions that children go through in this period as it helps alleviate the overwhelming anxiety they might be experiencing. Children typically need to ask a lot of questions to gain a better understanding, and it is important to give them the clarity they desire.

Keeping your little one engaged in something stimulating such as reading or educational games during the holidays will also help them transition into school mode a whole lot easier. The Personal also suggests adopting an independent approach as a way to ensure that they will be able to navigate the school environment when you are not around. Furthermore, they emphasize the importance of having conversations about safety, boundaries and overall respect to help your little one get along with other children as well as their teachers.
