Are you an adrenaline junkie and love everything fast paced? Skydiving might just be the right sport for you.

Skydiving, also known as parachuting, is a use of a parachute to slow a divers fall to the ground after jumping from an airplane or other high places. For adrenaline driven individuals, this is one sport that is sure to give you an out of body experience, leaving you with a feeling you will never forget.

A skydiving experience requires you to have a main parachute, a reserve parachute, container (bag pack) that keeps the parachutes, googles (not compulsory) and an altimeter.

After jumping from the aircraft, depending on the altitude and type of jump, the parachute can be opened immediately or after a period of free fall. The weight of the body in free fall will cause the canopy to open and the air pressure will hold the parachute in shape for a smooth and controlled descent, explains iJump.

Although the classic shape of parachutes used to be round, today most parachutes are rectangular, which allows for more flight control.

This sport that many would not attempt to try can be beneficial in many ways. Here is a list of the benefits of skydiving, supplied by iJump.

  • It releases a lot of adrenaline, which will enhance the body’s ability to respond.
  • It helps to energise you.
  • It improves the ability to use reflexes by increasing the necessary levels of attention.
  • It helps to release all the stress and tension accumulated from your daily routine.
