Friendship is supposed to be a source of comfort and support, but sometimes it can take a turn for the worse. If you’re noticing signs that your friendship is coming to an end, it can be hard to know how to move forward.

Here are the top five signs that it’s time to say goodbye to a friendship suggested by WikiHow, an information hub that guides people on lifestyle topics:

  1. When you no longer feel comfortable around the person.
  2. You’ve outgrown the friendship.
  3. There is a lack of trust or respect.
  4. You no longer have anything in common.
  5. You don’t enjoy spending time together anymore.

Friendships do not need to have a bad ending, but ending a friendship with grace can be difficult, it is however an important part of the process. When you decide to end the friendship, it’s important to:

  • Be honest, but kind.
  • Avoid blaming or shaming the other person.
  • Respect the other person’s feelings.
  • Be open to the possibility of reconciliation.
  • Thank the person for the friendship.
  • Offer a sincere apology if necessary.

By ending the friendship with grace, you can preserve your dignity and self-respect, while also leaving the door open for the future, adds Psychology Today.

Ending a friendship can be heartbreaking, but it’s also an opportunity for growth and change. It’s important to remember that it’s okay to feel sad, angry, and confused. Grief is a normal and natural part of the process. However, it’s also important to focus on self-care and moving forward.
