As June exams approach, preparing your child effectively can make a significant difference in their confidence and performance.

The June exam period is crucial in South Africa, requiring a balanced approach that combines study, rest, and emotional support to help your child succeed.

With these methods, you can prepare them and get them ready:

Creating a structured study plan

You can begin by helping your child organise their revision schedule. Break down subjects into manageable chunks and allocate specific times for each topic. This helps prevent last-minute cramming and reduces stress.

Encourage regular breaks to maintain focus and avoid burnout. Using planners or study apps can add structure and visual clarity to their preparation.

Encouraging effective study techniques

Support them by adopting active learning strategies, like summarising notes, creating flashcards, and practising past papers. All these methods enhance understanding and retention compared to passive reading.

Discuss tricky concepts with them, and quiz them to reinforce their knowledge and boost confidence.

Promoting well-being and motivation

Exams are stressful, so it’s important to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Ensure they get enough sleep, eat nutritious meals, and even though it’s cold, staying hydrated is important. Physical activity can also relieve tension and improve concentration.

Above all, maintain a positive and supportive atmosphere at home, reminding them that effort matters more than perfection. Preparing your child for June exams involves more than just academic readiness.

By guiding them through these steps with patience and encouragement, you help them build resilience and the skills needed to ace these upcoming exams.
