Things your children shouldn’t be responsible for

by Unathi Balele

Children should be allowed to be children and not feel responsible for things that are not their responsibility. Parents and caregivers should create a safe environment for children and communicate clearly what children should and should not feel responsible for.

This will help children grow up without unnecessary stress and anxiety and enable them to enjoy their childhood.

Children are vulnerable and impressionable individuals who are still trying to understand the world around them. As they grow, they may start feeling responsible for things that are not their responsibility.

These are the things that children should not feel responsible for, by Pysch2go:

  1. Their parents’ happiness: Children should not feel that their actions or behaviour are responsible for their parents’ happiness. It is the responsibility of the adults to take care of their own emotional well-being.
  2. Family finances: Children should not feel responsible for their family’s financial situation. It is not their responsibility to earn money or manage the family budget.
  3. Their parents’ relationship problems: Children should not feel responsible for their parents’ relationship problems or conflicts. It is the responsibility of the parents to work out their issues and not involve their children in their arguments.
  4. Adult problems: Children should not feel responsible for solving adult problems, such as family disputes, legal issues, or health problems. These are the responsibilities of adults to handle.
  5. Other people’s emotions: Children should not feel responsible for other people’s emotions. They should not feel guilty for other people’s anger, sadness, or disappointment.
