As of 2026, Audi’s production of their A1 and Q2 vehicles will be a thing of the past.
This is according to the motor publication Auto Car, the news was confirmed by the company’s CEO, Gernot Döllner, who later acknowledged that the German company had no clear successor that they felt would replace the soon-to-be-retired vehicles.
Meanwhile, he has revealed that the company will have models in the lower A-Segment.
It is reported that the reason for the recent changes is that Audi wants to continue being a premium brand and, in doing so, has decided that they no longer has the desire to manufacture vehicles in each segment.
Furthermore, according to Citizen News, Audi’s former CEO Markus Duesmann hinted at the possibility of the brand’s respective vehicles being phased out as far back as 2021.
At the time, he highlighted that it started becoming too expensive and not in line with the brand’s move towards complete electrification by 2030.
“We have also realigned Audi as a premium brand. We will limit our model range at the bottom and expand it at the top,” Markus previously told the publication Handelsblatt.
Meanwhile, the automotive publication, Cars.co.za, reported that in 2024, Audi registered 463 units of the A1 Sportback in South Africa, along with 894 examples of the Q2.
It was further reported that the only Audi nameplate that outsold the Q2 locally last year was the Q3 Sportback.
