Ways to exercise if you don’t enjoy working out

It might be possible that you want to work out and stay in shape but you just hate the idea of going to the gym, lifting weights, doing cardio and all of those hard stuff. You are not the only one, luckily there are alternative techniques proven to work just as well as exercising that you can try.

Let’s have a look at what health practitioners suggest people try instead of working out:

Video games: According to health information publication, WebMD playing video games, such as fencing, boxing, and dancing, can increase exercise levels and promote non-gaming exercise, as studies show that active games can lead to more physical activity. “In one study, people who walked, ran, and climbed on a special mat during a fantasy role-playing game did more exercise than if they’d spent the same amount of time on a treadmill.”

House chores: The publication mentioned above also states that if you sweep or hoover the floors, clear out the gutters or wash and wax your car, you will receive a ‘moderate’ exercise. “It’ll help get you in better physical shape, and a clean car or house may boost your mental well-being, too.”

Stairs: Health Shots suggests that you choose stairs instead of elevators for daily routines, as this will improve fitness, reduce the risk of diseases, and stress, strengthen bones, and burn calories, while also reducing heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.

Walk: “If the gym is not your thing, you can walk your way to fitness. It may not show instant results but it will benefit you in the long run,” claims the source mentioned above. It is further mentioned that walking at least 10,000 steps daily can lead to long-term fitness benefits, as studies show that three hours of walking a week can reduce body weight, BMI, and waist size in men and women under 50, making it a worthwhile exercise.

Gardening: It is stated by the APWU Health Plan that gardening is a therapeutic activity that connects individuals with nature, offering physical demands and accessible pathways for those with disabilities or limited mobility. “Anyone with a green thumb knows how physically demanding planting, weeding, and watering can be,” therefore this activity is considered a suitable alternative for exercising.

Dance: The above publication also suggests that you throw a dance party with your kids and enjoy physical fitness, because “dancing tones your body and keeps you physically fit. It also elevates your heart rate and burns calories in a way that doesn’t feel like exercise.”
