That time of the month? I know, daunting right?

No one really enjoys that time of the month because it comes with not only pain and discomfort but it comes with mood swings, tender breasts, food cravings, fatigue, irritability and even depression.

According to Everyday Health, period pains can be so bad that doctors have actually given it a medical name: dysmenorrhea.

While period cramps can be painful, there are many ways to help get rid of the pain.

Everyday Health suggest these home remedies to relieve period pains:

Yoga poses to ease pain

Given that you will be uncomfortable especially during this time, doing a regular or easy yoga practice can help with the cramps. Stretching of your muscles or the relaxing effect of the poses can definitely soothe the pain.

Herbal tea to calm pain

Chamomile and peppermint teas are often recommended for menstrual pain because they are calming to the body. According to Sonya Angelone, a registered dietitian nutritionist, certain teas may help relieve period cramps.

Heating pad

According to research, applying heat is just as effective as ibuprofen for period cramps. An example of this would be using a hot water bottle.

Massage with essential oils

According to research, massaging your skin with certain aromatic essential oils can relieve menstrual cramp pain

Some oils that can be helpful include lavender essential oil, clary sage essential oil, and marjoram essential oil.

Improving your diet

According to research, a low-fat vegetarian diet was found to ease cramps. You can start by eating food that contains less fat.
