Are you a lover of juicy figs? Here is how you can get more out of this delicious fruit

There is nothing better than a fresh-picked, juicy fig enjoyed amongst great conversation. Figs are the perfect combination of chewy and sweet, but what if we told you that you could get an increase in benefits from this delicious fruit if you were to soak your figs overnight?   

The fruit is known for its aid in promoting a healthy digestive system and can even be of assistance to women during that time of the month.   

Rich in minerals and fibre, there are many benefits to soaking your figs overnight. Not only is it delicious but whilst undergoing the soaking process figs are able to gain an increase in their dietary fibre. Including figs in your diet especially at the start of your day can be beneficial as it will provide a natural boost, the fruit is also a great breakfast choice. They are low in calories but high in fibre thus figs are not too overwhelming for a morning meal but can still be filling.

Benefits of figs   

Rich in minerals: Figs as mentioned above are very nutritious and are rich in many minerals such as iron, zinc, magnesium and manganese.   

Digestive system: Consuming figs on the regular can be good for your overall digestive system. It can be a good source to help with constipation and the regulation of healthy bowel movements; this is due to the high fibre content in figs.   

Bone health: Figs can contribute towards healthy bones because they contain elements of calcium which are needed for healthy bones.   

Can reduce blood sugar levels: Rich in potassium the fruit can be a potential helper in lowering blood sugar levels.   

How to soak your figs:   

  • Place your desired number of figs into a bowl.  
  • Add warm water to the bowl, making sure to pour the water over the figs.   
  • Allow the figs to soak in the water overnight.   
  • The next day, your figs should be plump.   
  • Rinse and drain the figs.
