‘I’m dying, I don’t want to die’- Zoleka Mandela’s cancer returns

South African author and cancer survivor Zoleka Mandela’s cancer is back and she says she is scared of dying.

Zoleka took to Instagram to pen a touching post about a possible diagnosis of  cancer in her bones. The author was first treated for breast cancer in 2011 and it returned in 2016. She’s been very open about her struggles with chemotherapy.

She has been in remission but she experiencing excruciating pain in her left rib for more than a month and decided to get it checked. ‘I went for an x-ray of my chest and rib a few days ago – I have a pathological fracture and swelling caused by cancer,’ she shares.

‘My medical oncologist has scheduled me for a CT scan and bone scan to determine whether I have cancer in the remaining parts of my body,’ she adds.

Zoleka who is the granddaughter of the late Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela Mandela, is a two-time cancer survivor. She also documented her 10-year journey with breast cancer in the past in an autobiogrphy, When hope whispers.

On her latest Instagram post, she shared that the possibility of her results being bone cancer scares her, because ‘it can not be eradicated or cured.’

‘I have Bone Metastasis. I’ve just has my CT scan and awaiting my results. I don’t have the words to articulate my thoughts and feelings. The words to describe  how scared I am right now.’

She ended her post with ‘ I may not get to live my life as a survivor? How do I them [children] everything will be okay when it’s not? I’m dying… I don’t want to die.’
