Award-winning TV host and comedian, Trevor Noah spoke candidly on his mental health struggles while hosting US late-night talk show, The Daily Show.

Trevor recently appeared on renowned British entrepreneur and podcaster, Steven Barlett’s The Diary of A CEO episode where he spoke on his journey and mental state during hosting the show which aired from 2015-2022 on Comedy Central.

According to news publication, News24, the comedian touched on so many heartfelt topics including his childhood during the apartheid regime as well as his big move to the US for his hosting duties on the late-night show.

Describing his experience on The Daily Show he said, “It was terrible. When they say be careful what you wish for-I was like, ‘Oh, I’d love a challenge’, and it was a challenge. It was terrible because I stepped into a role that I quickly learned wasn’t just a position, but it was almost like a post.”

Amongst topics, we would discuss on the talk show, Trevor added that he would get threats from people telling him he should come back to South Africa whilst some would call him derogatory racial words.

Despite the being a cultural and political shock in America, Trevor prevailed till the end days even when he would give these threats.

He said, “But then I realised that no, you hate the idea of me and you hate what I’ve done to your world, adding “I learned so much on the Daily Show, I’m eternally grateful for them. There were many things when it came to me leaving The Daily Show. But I felt like it was time.”
