‘This shirt reminds me of old SABC test signal’ – fans’ opinion divided on new Springboks jersey

by Staff Bona

In a move that’s sparked more debate than a referee’s call in the dying minutes, the Springboks have unveiled their latest jersey, now featuring the logos of new sponsors First National Bank (FNB) and Pick n Pay.

Fans, ever eager to share their sartorial insights, have taken to social media to voice their opinions.

Great to welcome @picknpay to our family of sponsors, with their logo appearing on the back of all our national teams’ playing jerseys ✅

One supporter lamented on X (formerly Twitter), “Disaster of a Bok jersey incoming,” while another didn’t mince words, stating, “It looks horrendous.”

The design itself has been a hot topic. Some enthusiasts have praised the classic green and gold look, noting that “Nike got it right. The 2nd kit is stunning.”

Sad you didn’t get @Sixty60_Tweets They really supported you guys.

Others, however, have been less charitable. “This shirt reminds me of old SABC test signal,” remarked one critic, drawing parallels between the jersey’s design and nostalgic television test patterns.

Of course, the addition of FNB and Pick n Pay logos has led to some playful speculation. “If we win the World Cup, do we get eBucks and a discount on boerewors?” joked a fan.

Another mused, “Hopefully, the Boks’ defence will be as secure as FNB’s online banking – and their attack as fast as Pick n Pay’s express checkout (on a good day).”

While opinions on the aesthetics vary as wildly as referee decisions, there’s a shared hope that these new sponsorships will bolster the team’s resources.

After all, if the partnership leads to more victories, fans might just be willing to overlook any design quirks – or at least, they’ll have plenty of material for their next round of social media jests.
