Born Silamour Philander in 1961 and raised in Elsies River, he went on to become one of Cape Town’s most recognisable creative voices. His journey in the arts began at The Space Theatre in Cape Town, where he first stepped into the spotlight, before joining the Baxter Theatre and further establishing himself on the local stage.

His work later took him abroad, with tours that included performances in London and the United States, introducing international audiences to his distinctive style and storytelling ability.

Television viewers came to know him as the host of Liriekeraai and Vat ’n Kans, where his humour and presence made him a familiar face in many homes. He also featured in series such as Arendsvlei and Devil’s Peak, adding to a diverse on-screen portfolio.

In addition to performing, Soli was a prolific writer and director, creating one-man shows and contributing to children’s educational theatre, reflecting his passion for nurturing creativity through performance.

He leaves behind four children and a foster daughter.
