Kylie Jenner’s Acting Turn in Charli XCX’s The Moment May Finally Kill the “Talentless” Trope

by Zaghrah Anthony

The Kardashians: From Memes to Movie Roles

If there’s one insult that has followed the Kardashian-Jenner clan like a shadow, it’s the word “talentless.” They’ve been called reality stars, influencers, fashion entrepreneurs, makeup queens, but never “actors,” at least not with a straight face.

Well, it looks like the winds are changing.

Kim Kardashian started testing the waters years ago with cameos and small roles, but it wasn’t until her 2023 performance in American Horror Story: Delicate that critics grudgingly admitted she wasn’t just reading lines, she was performing. That role paved the way for All’s Fair, where she’s now filming alongside heavyweights like Glenn Close and Sarah Paulson, playing a commanding divorce lawyer.

And now, it’s Kylie’s turn.

Kylie Jenner Steps Onto the Big Screen

Kylie Jenner, once considered the quiet sister with the lip kits and camera-ready angles, is about to make her official acting debut in the upcoming A24 film The Moment. She’s starring opposite Charli XCX, who co-created the story.

The film isn’t your typical Hollywood fantasy, it digs into the messy, glitter-covered pressure of modern fame: fan obsession, internet mobs, the influencer economy, and the exhaustion of always being on. The themes land a little too close to home for someone who grew up with cameras in her face before she could spell “paparazzi.”

Jenner has said that being in her late twenties has given her more confidence to try new things and this next chapter signals a shift from being seen as a product of fame to a participant in storytelling.

Culture Has Shifted, So Has the Criticism

For the longest time, the Kardashians were the poster family for everything people loved to mock about reality culture. But a mix of persistence, business power, and pop culture dominance has chipped away at that old narrative.

Kim has quietly moved from punchline to performer. Now, Kylie’s stepping up in a production house known for turning unexpected talent into indie gold. A24 is not a vanity studio — it’s responsible for Euphoria, Uncut Gems, Moonlight and Hereditary. Landing a role there isn’t handed out like PR freebies.

The internet has reacted with a mix of shock, skepticism and intrigue:

  • Some Twitter users have joked, “A24 letting Kylie Jenner act? The simulation is glitching.”

  • Others are furious that nepotism might be opening the door.

  • But a surprising chunk of fans are rooting for her, curious to see if she’ll pull a Kim-style plot twist.

Fame Isn’t What It Used to Be and Hollywood Knows It

What makes The Moment especially relevant is how it mirrors the era Kylie and Charli XCX both live in: stardom isn’t just red carpets anymore. It’s TikTok backlash, fast-fashion memes, cancel threats, parasocial relationships and people tracking your every move.

The Kardashians didn’t just survive that shift — they helped define it.

So in a way, Kylie isn’t just acting in The Moment. She is the moment.

From Meme Queens to Movie Credits?

Here’s the wild thing: we may be watching a quiet rebrand unfold in real time. Kim is working with award-winning talent. Kylie is entering the film world through one of the most respected indie studios. The industry that once mocked them now casts them.

Will Kylie become the unexpected indie darling of the TikTok generation?
Will Kim land that prestige drama role people once thought was impossible?

It’s too early to tell — but clearly, the “no talent” punchline is starting to age out.

And like it or not, everyone’s going to watch just to see if they pull it off.
