Musician and actress Itumeleng Bokaba has shocked many by dropping the rape case she had opened against music executive, Nhlamulo Nota Baloyi.

Itumeleng, popular for her portrayal of Mampho on Rhythm City took to social media to clarify her reasons. In a statement she issued on her Instagram page, she said she has an exciting project in her career that is coming up, which requires her to be in a positive headspace as it demands her full focus and dedication.

“For this reason, I have decided to withdraw my case at this time to focus fully on this exciting new chapter. However, this does not mean that the case has been dismissed or that my experience is invalid. I remain firm in my truth and will revisit the case at a later stage when I am in a better position to do so,” she penned.

In the statement, she extended her gratitude to those who have shown her support on the journey.

Itumeleng had opened a case of rape at the Douglasdale Police Station against Nota, who later handed himself over to the Randburg Police station. Nota was later released on R5 000 bail after he appeared at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.

The news first broke on the internet with leaked WhatsApp conversation between Nota and Itumeleng shared by controversial blogger, Musa Khawula. The music executive denied that he raped Itumeleng and alleged that they had consensual sex in his house in the presence of one of his adult relatives.

Speaking to Daily Sun after the withdrawal of the charges, Nota said: “Part one of the nightmare is over. Now, we wait for the outcome of the protection order I filed for harassment and extortion before I handed myself over to the police.”
