The son of former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe became the subject of online speculation after posts alleged that he had re-entered the country despite being deported earlier this year.
So Robert Mugabe’s son is back in South Africa even though he falls under South Africa’s undesirable persons category. So he’s here illegally again like most of most of his countrymen. @HomeAffairsSA pic.twitter.com/SimSpejrSl

Lawyers deny social media reports
According to Bellarmine’s legal representatives, the claims being shared across social media platforms are false, and they urged the public not to spread unverified information.
The statement comes after speculation gained traction online, with users questioning whether Mugabe had returned to the country following his deportation.

Bellarmine Mugabe deported after court case
The rumours follow Bellarmine’s high-profile legal case in South Africa earlier this year.
In April 2026, the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court ordered him to pay fines totalling R600,000 after he pleaded guilty to immigration-related and firearm-related offences. As part of the court order, he was deported to Zimbabwe.
The case stemmed from an incident at a Hyde Park property in Johannesburg, where he was arrested in February 2026. Prosecutors said he pointed what appeared to be a firearm during an altercation. Investigations later established that the object was a toy gun.
As part of a plea agreement, Bellarmine pleaded guilty to the relevant charges, while attempted murder charges were not pursued against him.
Social media speculation continues
Despite his deportation, online rumours have continued to surface, with some posts claiming he had quietly returned to South Africa.
The latest statement aims to dispel the speculation and encourage the public to rely on verified information rather than unconfirmed social media posts.
Those who know Chatunga Mugabe will not buy the nonsense that this is Chatunga, who has been spotted shopping in South Africa. This is cheap propaganda!
