South Africa’s women’s national football team Banyana Banyana’s captain, Janine Van Wyk, made history when she became the most capped player in the whole of Africa, both in women and men’s soccer, after she played her 185th game recently.

Janine surpassed 30-year-old Egyptian Ahmed Hassan, who plays centre-forward for the national team, who is currently sitting at 184 caps.

The defender, who also hung her boots recently, made her Banyana Banyana debut in 2005, she was later appointed as a captain in 2013, bagging bragging rights as the first captain to lead Banyana Banyana to the World Cup.

Taking the news to social media platforms, the Banyana Banyana social media page shared a post captioned:

“The Last Dance ??, 185th CAP!!?. Janine Van Wyk makes history as she becomes the most capped African player (men and women). She surpasses Ahmed Hassan (Egypt). Congratulations Janine ?.”
