Speaking to Daily Sun, the Yizo Yizo and Isidingo star said his longevity comes down to discipline, purpose, and a deep respect for acting as a craft rather than a route to celebrity status.
A career built on consistency and reinvention
Mavuso has been on South African screens since 1998, earning household recognition through roles such as Vusi Moletsane in Isidingo and Javas Nyembe in Yizo Yizo.
More recently, he has continued to evolve with the industry, taking on roles in productions such as Smoke & Mirrors and the upcoming e.tv drama eGagasini: Waves of Change. As reported by Briefly News, the new show will debut on Monday, the 29th of June 2026 and will air on weekdays at 19:30.
Mavuso’s career trajectory reflects an ability to adapt across eras of South African television, from classic soap operas to modern telenovelas.
Never for the fame
The actor told Daily Sun that his guiding principle is authenticity. He says he does not approach acting for fame, but because of a genuine connection to the work itself.
“I’m not a celebrity. I’m a vessel. For me, acting is a calling to go out and change people’s lives because the characters we play change and influence people’s lives,” he noted. He also added that too many performers today focus on celebrity status instead of storytelling.

For him, acting is a calling rather than a performance for popularity, a mindset he believes has helped him remain grounded and employed for over two decades.
Advice to young actors: protect the craft
Mavuso also shared advice for emerging talent entering the entertainment industry. He encouraged young actors to prioritise passion over visibility and to focus on building skills rather than chasing fame.
According to him, it is easy to tell when performances lack sincerity, making authenticity essential for long-term success.
As South African entertainment continues to evolve, Mavuso’s career serves as a reminder that longevity is often built quietly through discipline, humility, and consistency rather than viral moments.
His message is clear: staying relevant is less about chasing fame and more about staying true to the craft.
