Our favourite Beyoncé Songs

by Amanda Ndlangisa

Beyoncé is a force of nature. She performed in various singing and dancing competitions as a child, and rose to fame in the late 1990s as lead singer of R&B girl-group Destiny’s Child. Since then, Beyoncé has proved that she is more than just a pretty face.

Today is her birthday, so here at the BONA HQ, we are celebrating it by listing a few of our favourite Bey tracks.

It’s a classic song that will never get old and every version produced sounds better than the last – Nikita Singh: Art director

Grown woman

I love that song, my best friend and I have a dance routine to it, and we love the music video. The song completely describes our kind of independence – Boitumelo Mmakou: Features writer

Run the world (girls)

This song screams “WOMEN EMPOWERMENT” and that’s what I’m about. Because really, think about it; who is smart enough to make the millions, strong enough to bare the children, then get back to business? GIRLS – Amanda Ndlangisa: Digital Editor

Single Ladies (Put a ring on it)

I like the song because it emphasises that as long as there is no ring on my finger I’m still single, whether I’m in a relationship or not –  Patience Gumbo: Copy editor

If I were a boy

I love that song because I would love to be a boy…just for a day, to see how a man’s mind operates because they really confuse us sometimes – Nokwethemba Dlamini: isiZulu translator

Dangerously in love

The song describes the way I feel about my fiancé –  Mmasibidi Setaka: Sesotho translator
