Catching Up With Mbali Mlotshwa

by Amanda Ndlangisa

We caught up with the gorgeous face of Dawn and actress Mbali Mlotshwa

Your favourite show is…

Rockville, for obvious reasons (laughs). I love Rockville, the story line is amazing, and producers Connie and Shona Ferguson are a blessing to work with. They know what they are doing and they bring out the best in the actors.

How did you break into the industry?

Isabella from Moja Movie Factory (I call her mama Isabella) gave me my first audition and first job on Mtunzini.com in 2005. But, I was about five or six years old when I fell in love with acting. When Sarafina, the movie, came out I was sold. I knew then that I wanted to pursue acting. Back then I was Sarafina everywhere. My family would gather around and I would act out scenes from the movie.

You have a show on ANN7 called StarBiz. What is it about?

StarBiz showcases local and international celebrity lifestyles and what they also get up to off screen. I love it because it is not focused entirely on gossip, but rather an overall look into celebrity lives.

Where you not a bit doubtful in taking the role of Lindi in Rockville?

I’ve always wanted to play the role of an escort; it’s been a secret goal of mine. When the opportunity came along, my husband (DJ Black Coffee) and I spoke in depth about it and he was pretty comfortable with it.

You recently became the new face of Dawn skincare products. How did that come about?

Dawn approached me in 2012 about working with them on campaigns and initiatives. It was only late last year that I became the brand’s ambassador. Last year, they did a charity drive and we visited abused women and children around the country – we took gifts and spoiled them a little. I knew then that I wanted to be part of this beautiful brand.
