5 Reasons why you need to watch She is King

She Is King movie

She is King is set against the glossy backdrop scene of Johannesburg, the musical movie tells the story of Khanyisile (played by Gugu Zulu), a multi-talented singer and dancer who is in pursuit of fame and fortune. She leaves her rural home in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal, to audition for a new musical  which is based on the life of powerful Zulu Queen Mkabayi ka Jama. The musical depicts her journey from the powerful woman that she was and how she made history by leaving her mark which also helped to shape her nation.

As if that doesn’t already raise the hair on your neck with excitement as you sit on the edge of your seat…there’s more. We share five reasons to hit the cinemas tomorrow and take your movie experience to a whole new level.

1. It’s a proudly South African movie directed by Gersh Kgamedi.
2. The stellar cast is a great mix of passionate newcomers and veteran actors. It’s mainly made up of phenomenal women who bring the movie to life: Khabonina Qubeka, Khanyi Mbau, Mandisa Nduna, Gugu Zulu, Sophie Ndaba, and Tango Ncetezo to name a few.

3. The soundtrack features songs from music legends such as the late Brenda Fassie and Lucky Dube, Vusi Khumalo, Simpiwe Dana, PJ Powers and Joseph Shabalala among others.
4. It’s a musical which showcases and celebrates the Zulu culture. “We are excited about the soundtrack as it brings together a wonderfully diverse range of local talent, both old and new,” says director Gersh.
5. She is King is distributed by Indigenous Film Distributiin and releases on Friday 1 December 2017 nationwide which is perfect for a night out with your friends or family.
