5 minutes with Shekhinah Donell

by Bongiwe Tshiqi

Songstress Shekhinah Donell won the hearts of many South Africans when she took part in Idols South Africa. Today, her fan base is growing at a fast past as her music career kicks off with a bang.

1.I am a singer and songwriter. I love singing more than anything in the world. Music is a huge part of my life, and people inspire me to sing.

2. I didn’t take my elimination from Idols personally. I took it as an opportunity to learn and grow. I wasn’t disappointed because I knew that it was going to happen. It was a beautiful experience, and it was hard to be upset because I have happy memories.

3. As an upcoming artist, it can be difficult to get gigs. I have not been in the music industry for a long time, and people who have usually get more gigs. But, this is slowly getting easier and I am enjoying performing live.

4. My career continues to be an amazing ride. I am happy with the reception that I have received from my fans and people in the industry. It’s great to see them receiving my music positively, because it’s intimidating to put it out into the world. My career has been fast-paced, but overall it’s been a beautiful experience. I hope it continues this way.

5. I am releasing my debut album after I graduate. I’m excited, and hoping for a great reception. I can’t wait for people to hear my sound.

6. I am excited that I will be performing at the upcoming Superbalist in the City Virgin Mobile Braam Beach Party. I love performing live, and can’t wait to connect and have fun with my fans.
